Three staff photographers with the Hankyoreh newspaper were recognized in the 57th Korea Press Photography Awards, which were announced by the Korea Press Photographers Association (KPPA) on Feb. 9.
Park Jong-shik, a staff photographer with the Hankyoreh, won first prize in the Art and Entertainment category for his photo “Someday We Will Meet Again.”
Kim Myoung-jin, another staff photographer with the newspaper, took first prize in the Lifestyle Story category for “Fifteen Views of Workers’ Meals: Their Labor.”
Lee Jeong-a, also on the newspaper’s photography team, received an honorable mention in the Current Events Story category for “Island of the Poor in Downtown Seoul,” which depicts homeless people living in tents in the vicinity of Yongsan Station.
The grand prize was given to Kim Gi-tae, a reporter with News 1, who captured a heartbreaking rendezvous on Parents’ Day: a son and mother separated by thick glass because of COVID-19 restrictions.
All the winning photographs in the 57th Korea Press Photography Awards will be displayed in the plaza in front of the Press Center in Seoul on Mar. 22-31.
