Environmental activists are calling on Samsung Life Insurance and Samsung Marine & Fire Insurance to stop all investment in projects related to coal-fired energy. Gathering in front of the Korean Federation for Environmental Movements (KFEM) in Seoul on Nov. 10, the activists claimed that Samsung’s financial affiliates have invested a total of 15 trillion won (US$13.45 billion) in coal-based energy. The activists also say that Samsung’s 40 coal power plants have emitted around 6 billion tons of carbon dioxide.
