South Korean President Moon Jae-in spoke of the “sympathies left to us by the children of the Sewol” in a message on the sixth anniversary of the Sewol ferry sinking.
In a message posted to this Facebook account that day, Moon wrote, “The lesson of the Sewol is contained in our approach and measures in response to COVID-19.”
“The people of South Korea are observing social distancing and self-isolation and wearing masks in the spirit of ‘not losing anyone in vain,’” he continued.
“As we overcome COVID-19 today, we are once again seeing our interdependency,” he added.
“As I remember the children who left us with the legacy of social responsibility, I give my sincere thanks to the South Korean people.”
Moon also wrote, “When we return to daily life after COVID-19, it will be very different from now. We will prepare thoroughly both for that new life and for our response to disaster.”
“I want to share my profound condolences to the family members of Sewol victims,” he continued.
