The South Korean military plans on carrying out maritime defensive drills for the Doko islets. During a session of the National Assembly Steering Committee on Aug. 6, Blue House National Security Office Director Chung Eui-yong revealed the defensive drills will be conducted in two phases within this year. Although such defensive drills are a regular occurrence, conducting them amid current South Korea-Japan trade tensions is being seen as particularly significant.
