The Korean Women’s Federation for Consumers, Korea YWCA, the National Council of Consumer Education and other consumer advocacy groups demonstrated on the steps of the Sejong Performing Arts Center on Mar. 15 to demand constitutional revisions guaranteeing basic rights for consumers. In particular, the groups want to change Article 124 of the Constitution which deals with guaranteeing demonstrations by consumer groups in order to improve the quality of food products. The groups feel that this definition is too limiting, and are demanding a clear statement declaring a comprehensive guarantee of consumer demonstrations.

Consumer advocacy groups will continue to pursue their goal by launching a signature drive with the goal of 1,000 signatures from civic leaders, discussions with legal experts, campaigns, etc. until the local elections in June. (by Kim Myung-jin, staff photographer)
