The Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office announced that it had acquired a portion of former South Korean President Chun Doo-hwan’s financial penalty by selling portion of land in Yeoncheon County in Gyeonggi Province that had previously belonged to his son. Prosecutors had seized Chun Jae-guk’s Herb Village and surrounding property in 2013 shortly after his family announced they would pay the remainder of his father’s 220.5 billion won penalty for corruption while in office. With this sale, Chun has now repaid 115.5 billion won, or 52.4% of his total fine. Prosecutors will continue their investigation into the disgraced president’s real estate holdings. (Yonhap News)
