The bereaved family members of the victims of the Goyang Geumjeong Cave Massacre hold a memorial service at a facility storing remains at Seoul National University Hospital in Seoul, Feb. 8, just six days before the national holiday Seollal, the Korean Lunar New Year holiday (Feb. 13 to 15).

The remains of approximately 150 victims of the Goyang Geumjeong Cave Massacre have been discovered over the past 15 years at Goyang city, Gyeonggi Province. The victims were killed by police officers of Goyang Police Station in October of 1950 during the Korean War. The police officers killed individuals and their family members for merely being suspected of being leftists and under suspicions that they were aiding the North Korean army. The police officers buried their remains in a cave called Geumjeong. The remains were discovered in 1995 and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRCK) has demanded the government to build a memorial for them, however, the government has not yet shown intentions to follow through on the TRCK recommendation.
