North Korea has banned Chinese tour groups ahead of its Sept. 9 holiday celebrating the establishment of the North Korean government. However, Radio Free Asia (RFA) has reported that the travel ban does not apply to tour groups from Europe. The North Korean government has cited construction on all hotels in Pyongyang as the reason for its temporary ban on Chinese travelers. Analysts have suggested that perhaps North Korea did not place a ban on European tourists, who have to pay substantial fees to enter the country.
