The South Korean government plans to build at least two “hydrogen cities” where hydrogen is the main fuel source for heating and cooling, transportation, and electricity. The government also aims to increase the number of hydrogen vehicles in the country to 850,000 and build an effective network of hydrogen charging stations by 2030. On July 1, Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun presided over the inaugural meeting of the Hydrogen Economy Committee in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, with Hyundai Motor Group Executive Vice Chairman Chung Eui-sun and eight government ministers in attendance. The committee’s objective is to convert South Korea into a leader in the global hydrogen industry.
