Semiconductor sales for Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have dropped significantly, leading industry observers to conclude that the South Korean companies will relinquish their respective number one and number two three the US’ Intel and Taiwan’s TSMC. According to the market research firm IC Insights, Samsung’s semiconductor sales for 2019 have decreased by 29% from the previous year. SK Hynix experienced a decrease of 38% from the previous year. Conversely, Intel maintained a similar level of sales from last year, while TSMC is expected to see an increase of 1%. Industry analysts point to a drop in demand for memory semiconductors, which Samsung and SK Hynix are known for, while demand for non-memory devices, the realm of Intel and TSCM, remained steady.
